The secret of Addis in Dar
Addis in Dar was opened in 1998 in a quiet suburb of Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania. At the time, owner Senait Mekonnen had a vision of a simple yet atmospheric restaurant that would bring the flavors, aromas and identity of her highland homeland to the tropical Swahili coast. A small unknown restaurant at the time, it opened to a modest yet wholly positive reception. However it wasn’t long before word got around about the little secret in Dar.
In the years that followed Addis in Dar grew to one of the mainstays of the Dar es Salaam culinary scene, catering to both ex-patriot and local clientele, it’s mellow ambiance under the stars on the terrace and rich authentic Ethiopian cuisine and tradition provided for a unique dining experience that before long caught the attention of many including the likes of Time Magazine (March 2005).
